"Flying a Sign"

by the Community CollabARTive

There's a new billboard at Jefferson and Gravois that is the result of many months of work for the community collabARTive.  Led by volunteer artist, Ann Hartenbach, the collabARTive created a mural that depicts the transition from homelessness to independence.  The project would not have been possible without the help and direction of longtime collabARTive artists Michele Ryker Owens, Louis Ingram and shelter director Tom Burnham.

Special thanks go to billboard owners Andrew James and Noah Kirby who donated their time and treasure to the project. Congratulations to all who made this version of "flying a sign" a success!!

The next time you find yourself driving near Jefferson and Gravois have a look!!

Tom Burnham, Shelter Director for Peter & Paul Community Services has a little fun "flying a sign" beneath the recently installed community collabARTive billboard at Jefferson and Gravois.  Have a look next time you're in the neighborhood!!

Transitions & Connections:
Voices of the community collabARTive

This project is a compilation of over 8 years of writing projects with the men of the community collabARTive at Peter & Paul Community Services.

The stories are real.  They are based on experiences of those who have passed through our programs.

They are stories and perspectives typically overlooked, dismissed or never recognized for their value since they are told by an invisible group of people within the community, namely, those who are homeless.

Many thanks to the artists of the community collabARTive who worked so hard with residents to write, edit and perform these stories over the years.

And many thanks to the current residents of the Transitional Housing Program at Peter & Paul Community Services whose courage has resulted in capturing and sharing these stories with you now...
