The Peter & Paul Volunteer Corps

Those familiar with the work of Peter & Paul Community Services are well aware of the success of our Meals Program.

Inspired by the volunteers who make the Meals Program a possibility, Peter & Paul Community Services offers the PPCS Volunteer Corps. This group of volunteers makes a 1-year commitment to serve in one of the following branches:

1. Emergency Response
2. Special Events
3. Meals

As a member of the Peter & Paul Volunteer Corps you can help the agency expand its services, meet sudden unexpected needs and assist with public relations opportunities as they arise.

Emergency Response
PPVC members interested in helping Peter & Paul Community Services in times of crisis are encouraged to be "on call" in response to unforeseen situations that may arise throughout the course of a year. This past June, for example, our 60 bed emergency shelter for men flooded during a storm. The PPCS Corps of volunteers will be prepared to handle situations like these at a moment’s notice. A flexible schedule and a good sense of humor are all that’s required for this branch of the PPVC.

Special Events
PPVC members interested in assisting with special events will work behind the scenes to implement fundraisers for the agency. Candidates will work closely with the Development Office and Event Committee throughout the year. Both fundraisers and PR opportunities will require basic hospitality skills and a knowledge of the programs of the agency.

Meals
Peter & Paul Community Services serves over 120,000 meals each year to those experiencing homelessness and lower income families from the community.

Two ongoing and immediate needs facing the agency are meals assistance at Club Cathedral and the Shelter:

The Breakfast Club is a service provided in partnership with Centenary Methodist Church providing a simple breakfast for up to 220 persons who are homeless each weekday. Professional staff members help clients make phone calls to access and link to resources in the community. Volunteers are needed immediately on a regular monthly basis to assist staff with the daily preparation of food and clean up.

The Emergency Shelter serves up to 60 men nightly, 365 days a year. The basic needs of shelter, food, showers, laundry, lockers and staff support are available nightly. Most importantly, the shelter provides a warm, safe, caring alternative to living on the street. Volunteers are needed immediately on a regular monthly basis to provide an evening meal for the men.
